Režný Újezd

Režný Újezd forms one of the eleven local parts of Velemín in the Litoměřice District, part of the Usti Region of the Czech Republic. It lies on the northeastern slope of the hill Boreč (446 m), just about 4 km west from Lovosice town and less than 3 miles southeast of Velemín. There is 8 permanently occupied houses registered with 13 inhabitants (2001). The name Režný comes of an older word for rye.
== History ==

The earliest written mention of the village with simple name Újezd dates back to 1224 and comes of a document of property of Monastery of saint George in Prague. There is a mention of an old fortress dating back to 1366 with some Nicholas from Újezd living in it.
According to parish records there was mostly Czech population before the Thirty Years' War and then it greatly diminished during the invasion of enemy troops into Bohemia. The nobility then calls for a new wealthy inhabitants from Germany within germanization in the 17th century.
The oldest standing residential house in Režný Újezd is former gentlemen's´ farm (No. 2), standing directly over the village green and the water tank. It has an old stables attached to the house and it has a beautiful wooden balcony on the residential part of the house. According to the parish records the German family living in this house is firstly mentioned in 1695 but the house itself was probably built earlier. Unfortunately there are no records. During this period the name of village in parish records is Reschny Aujezd or Reschny Aujest. In July 1945 the German population was expelled from the Czech lands. Eyewitnesses reported that the German people were herded into the local chapel. The abandoned houses are taken by new settlers coming from the Czech Republic and Slovakia and in 1947 the Czechs from Volhynia. In 1949 the cooperative farms take place in Režný Újezd (there was a pig farm cow farm), which ceased after 1989. Since 1990 the village Režný Újezd comes under the municipality of Velemín.
